Iran: hunger strike launched by arrested protesters

By Heshmat Alavi
Reports indicate dozens of protesters arrested on November 22nd have launched hunger strikes in prison. These individuals were apprehended during their second day of demonstrations outside Iran’s parliament in Tehran demanding the release of political prisoner Mohammad Ali Taheri
Many of these protesters, including numerous women, were severely beaten by the regime’s repressive agents. Incoming reports from inside Iran indicate forty of those arrested individuals have launched hunger strikes protesting how they were treated.
The families of these prisoners have said a number of the protesters have launched dry hunger strikes, and their conditions are deteriorating.
These prisoners are dispersed in both the notorious Qarchak Varamin Prison near Tehran while others are held behind bars in Evin Prison.
There is no news of Ehsan Latifi or Morvarid Fartumi, both transferred to Revolutionary Guards safe houses after their arrests.
