The Growing Number of Executions in Iran and the Massacre of 1988

The Media Express, November 12, 2016 - On November 11, Iran Focus news website  disclosed that Alsharq Al-Awsat the Premier Pan-Arab Daily Newspaper, published a report on November 5th 2016, in which the results the research on the systematic executions and the massacre of the political prisoners in Iran in 1988. carried out by Khalij-e-Fars (Persian Gulf).
“The researchers did a research on the statistics and numbers as well as the events related to the systematic executions of Iran in 1988 when Khomeini came to power.”  The report continued, “The dictatorial regime ruling Iran is established on the gallows that Khomeini founded. This regime tried to follow suppression and execution as a way to get rid of rivals who are the fan of thoughts and progress in the political sovereignty,” read the report in the newspaper.
Meanwhile, the executions continue, these 37 years.
“Waging war against Islam”, “acting against the national security” and “rooting corruption in the society”, are the three charges on which These charges were the pretext of the Mullahs’ regime for eliminating the political dissidents.”  The research focused on these three charges, in regards to the execution of political prisoners.
The researchers also examined the consequences of a 40 minute  tape recently released by the son of the Ayatollah Montazeri, heir apparent to the Supreme Leader, at that time.  Involvement from the international communtiy, as well as unrest in the country itself followed its release.  The tape is a recorded discussion between Ayatollah Montazeri and the 4 members of Khomeini’s committee for the execution, known in media as the death committee.  What is said on the tape proves that former and current leaders of the Iranian regime played a significant role in the Massacre, and that Khomeini himself signed the execution orders.
The orders began a massive mobilization against supporters of the PMOI (MEK).
Khomeini’s 1988 Fatwa, in effect, legalized execution of the PMOI (MEK).  Consequently, the Judiciary of Iran passed the sentence and executed 30,000 people. Many of the victims were previously sentenced to imprisonment, or they had already served their sentence, or had been serving their time in prison. Others had already been released, but were imprisoned again with Khomeini’s order. These people were executed on the basis of having family connections with the members and supporters of PMOI (MEK).
One of the main perpetrators was the current Supreme Leader, Khamenei.  He was the president of those years, and many officials consulted him before carrying out decisions.  One such, is the current chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council, Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. He was the head of Parliament in those years and he was one of those who consulted Khomeini in his important decisions.
The reports looks at future prospects and consequences. A  second term of Hassan Rouhani makes it likely that the number of executions will increase, as the current ruling regime has maintained its trend of growing numbers of executions. A regime that sees its political opponents as threats, is itself a direct threat to its own survival and continuity.
